Offering many benefits over other methods of treatment, Shockwave Therapy:
-
Stimulates the body’s own healing ability
-
Is non-invasive – no need for surgery or anaesthesia
-
Often provides immediate reduction of pain as well as improved mobility and function
-
Can be used without the use of x-rays or drugs (although the diagnostic process and/or previous treatments may have included these)
-
It is cost effective at our clinic!
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive procedure carried out in our clinic in Torquay. It is used to treat a number of painful tendon related disorders including plantar fasciitis (heel pain) Achilles tendonitis, shoulder pain and tennis elbow, amongst many others.
By generating pulses of high-pressure sound that can travel through the skin that stimulates the healing process, there is no need for surgery with this treatment.
Treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after three of four sessions, however is it not unusual to experience immediate pain relief following the first treatment and improved movement. Reported side effects are minimal.
Shockwave treatment is supported by NICE the Governments Health watchdog and current research reports success rates between 65 and 91{99e1eafab09be509c582b8ed73c8c865a5887f4ea52334bba3f82c72b212badf} in reducing patient’s pain and symptoms after a course of 3-5 sessions.
There are very few adverse effects, unlike injections or surgery, making Shockwave therapy a very compelling therapeutic option for the treatment of chronic tendon problems. Treatment courses are typically 3-5 sessions, each a week apart.
Until recently, a course of Shockwave Therapy was an expensive treatment choice. Having been available in Harley Street and top London private hospitals, it was only available privately and in only a few consultant lead clinics. Having literately changing the lives of hundreds of suffers, but at a cost of £200 upwards per session, we strongly believe this highly effective treatment should be available to more and more people. We are proud to be one of the first clinics in Devon to be able to offer this treatment at a very affordable price.
We believe that this is the future of chronic soft tissue pain treatment. It will reduce the overuse of steroid injections into already weakened areas, saving both time to recovery and the need for complex surgery which costs the health service considerable resources.
Shockwave treatment has been clinically shown to :

Facilitate healing
-
Improve local microcirculation, leading to improved tissue metabolism
-
Increase production of collagen
-
Reduce local muscle tension
-
Help dissolve calcific fibroblasts
-
Stimulate the elimination of Substance P (a pain producing chemical)
